In September 2018, the Friedensbibliothek Berlin is showing the exhibition ‘The Face of the Other’ in the premises of Pulsraum. The exhibition consists of photos and texts from the “Old” and “New” World of South and North America.

The viewers get an insight into the touching fate of the indigenous population of America, which is barely comprehensible in its extent.

The exhibition is accompanied by various lectures, readings and information events by other cooperation partners.

To illustrate the current context of this exhibition, we have invited Survival International, who have been working since 1969 for indigenous peoples’ rights in tribal societies. Survival International will provide insight into the situation of indigenous peoples, who still live in parts of Central and South America today.

The exhibition opens with a reading from the books AWAYU by Hilaria Supa Huaman and KIDS OF THE CENTER. THE Q’ERO INDIANS by Thomas Müller and Helga Müller-Herbon.

A special event will be our small Latin American market, where traders such as the fashion label HILO SAGRADO participate, who, on their own initiative, are committed to the social and economic empowerment of Latin American communities. Also in attendance are the gallery Mamoo (Alpaca Store), Chackaworld and La Mexa.

At the end of the exhibition, we invite you to a DESPACHO (Prayer Covenant) for the indigenous people of America – a ritual from the Andes, guided by Annette Assmy. The ceremony will begin at Pulsraum and end at the children’s farm on Mauerplatz in Kreuzberg, with the burning of Despachos.

The events on 08.09., 15.09., 16.09., 22.09. are sponsored by Engagement Global with funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation, for the event on 29.09. Donations are welcome.
